INDIANAPOLIS—On Thursday, State Senator Karen Tallian announced her retirement from the Indiana Senate after 16 years of service. Senate Democratic Leader Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement on Sen. Tallian’s retirement announcement:

“I want to sincerely thank Senator Karen Tallian for her 16 years of service with the Indiana Senate,” said Senator Taylor. “She has been a tireless advocate for worker’s rights, criminal justice reform, women’s rights to reproductive healthcare, the environment and ensuring children have local options for the hospital care they need.

“As part of her work for the people of District 4, Senator Tallian was successful in passing meaningful juvenile justice reform that will give our teens a second chance. She worked with Congressional Representatives to provide permanent protection for the Indiana Dunes and expand the South Shore Line. She secured improved benefits for workers injured on the job and a pay increase for teachers. Of course, I will always appreciate her tireless advocacy to decriminalize marijuana and her strong belief that no Hoosier should go to jail for something legal in 36 other states.

“Senator Tallian has been a valued leader for our caucus, and her fighting spirit, her commitment to Democrat values and her passion will be truly missed. I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”
