INDIANAPOLIS–On Sunday, State Senator Frank Mrvan’s (D-Hammond) Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 258 as well as SEA 323, which was amended to contain language from Sen. Mrvan’s SB 501, was signed into law by the governor. SEA 258 closed a loophole in the law that allowed sex offenders to work in facilities that provide child care, and the language in his SB 501 required parents convicted of child crimes to be supervised during legal visitation with their children. Sen. Mrvan had the following remarks on his proposals being signed into law:

“This session, it was my goal to get legislation passed that addressed issues with child safety in this state. Both my SEA 258 and my SB 501 were drafted to do just that. I’m happy that language from my SB 501 was able to be amended into another proposal, and that both of these vital pieces of legislation received the attention and support needed to make it to the governor’s desk. Our Hoosier children will be better protected with these laws in place, and I’m grateful to my colleagues for helping me to get these proposals approved.”
