INDIANAPOLIS—Today in State Budget Committee, Indiana’s General Revenue Forecast for the fiscal years 2023-25 was released, predicting an additional $1.6 billion in revenue. Budget Committee Member State Senator Eddie Melton (D-Gary) released the following statement:

“Indiana’s revenue continues to outperform expectations and our state is projected to remain in a good economic position over the next several years. Even accounting for a small possible downturn that may hit this fiscal year, Indiana is in good standing economically,” Sen. Melton said. “This has been an ongoing trend in Indiana over the last few years, and it’s excellent news for Indiana residents as we head into the budget year.

“With our positive revenue forecast, there’s no question that we have the ability to invest meaningfully and heavily in critical items that will ensure we have a thriving economy that works for all Hoosiers. I was pleased with the budget we were able to pass in 2021, and we have an opportunity to pass an even better budget in the upcoming session. With the funds we have, we should be investing in K-12 education and ensuring schools have the budgets to pay their teachers more and to help address the ongoing teacher shortage. Addressing our declining college attainment rate, as well as funding the recommendations outlined by the Governor’s Public Health Commission must also be a top priority. I will be advocating to fund these important initiatives as the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.”
