CBD oil on its way to help ailing Hoosiers

On Tuesday, Senate Bill (SB) 52 legalizing Cannabidiol (CBD) oil passed the Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee. CBD oil, derived from the cannabis plant, helps ease pain and discomfort for a variety of different diseases and conditions. These conditions include, but are not limited to, intractable epilepsy, dependency on opioids, PTSD, and pain associated with cancer.

Many people testified in front of the committee about how CBD oil has helped with their respective ailments and overall health.

SB 52 legalizes the retail sale of CBD oil, making it available to any consumer for purchase, as long as it is labelled as containing .3 percent or less of THC. The bill eliminates the requirement in previous law that a person must be on an epileptic registry to access CBD oil. State Senator Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) voted in favor of the bill citing its healing capabilities.

“I am thankful that committee members recognize this common sense approach and know that the legalization of CBD oil will help ease the pain of Hoosiers who are suffering every day.” Sen. Lanane said.

SB 52 now moves to the full Senate for further consideration.
