Each year, the last Friday in April is recognized as Arbor Day, a time set aside to reflect on mankind’s relationship with trees.

Arbor Day celebrations in the United States have been observed since 1872, with Indiana’s involvement beginning in 1884. Since the inception of Arbor Day the focus has been on conservation, renewal, and reflection for the flora that provides countless benefits to humans and other creatures.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) provides beneficial material about the origins of Indiana’s Arbor Day, as well as information on how to obtain trees, the best methods for planting a tree, and many other items to help you celebrate Arbor Day. Visit DNR’s Arbor Day website by clicking here. DNR will also be hosting a variety of events at state parks throughout Indiana this weekend. You can see a list of the events, times, and locations by clicking here.
